“Day 6. Trek to the Kibo Hut
Another short day of around 4 or 5 hours, as we cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, to reach our overnight halt at the Kibo Hut an altitude of 4750m /15584ft. This camp is directly beneath the Kibo craterwall. We spend the afternoon resting and have an early night in preparation for the big day tomorrow.”
The anticipation of summit day is growing by the second. We are working hard, staying hydrated, and going to bed VERY early! With all of the excitement, you would think it might be hard to sleep. I’m betting that with the lower oxygen levels though, sleep will come easy.
I’m sad to be spending this holiday apart from my family, but summiting Kilimanjaro with such a wonderful group of friends is a once in a lifetime experience, and it will be worth the sacrifices.
